Hmm sleeping. The feeling of resting, recovering after a long day of work, maybe even a nice dream. Overall sleeping is pretty nice. But still, with our busy lives: work, school, homework and responsibilities it's often hard to find time to really get a good night rest.
Even though we got a crazy schedule during the week sleep is important so here are 3 things you should definitely avoid doing before you go to bed. Because you want to make sure that the hours of rest you do get are spend to the fullest ;).
Many studies have shown that using your phone or any other electronic device, for instance a e-reader or your laptop to watch that last episode of the series you’ve been watching on Netflix, can interfere with you sleeping well. Doctors recommend avoiding any electronic devices 1 hour before going to bed.
Alright lets dive into the theory. There is a hormone called melatonin. This hormone stimulates the body to become sleepy and eventually to fall asleep naturally. I read that the study had proven that using electronic devices decreases this hormone. So this means its makes it harder for you to fall asleep.
Flight modus . Try it. Its the best. I know there’s a lot of people that would disagree with me because, what if somebody is dying, or something bad happened, or I get a text from my secret admirer that she’s home alone?! I know its tempting. But leaving your WiFi/4G network on during the night is a bad idea. You will still be receiving messages through the night and this makes your sleep unstable. You will never get in that state of sleep where you body can fully rest.
This one is for all you caffeine junkies out there :P. I know coffee is nice and it gets you through the day. But the most ironic thing about it is that besides you might like the taste, you wouldn’t even be needing it if you had a good night rest.
Even though the caffeine gives you a temporary energy boost, which makes you feel alive and ready to go! Once that stuff wears off you feel even more spiritless then before.
Caffeine can be in your body up to 12 hours after you drink a normal cup of coffee! Just like alcohol it depends on the person how fast your body gets rid of the caffeine. I mean I probably don’t need to tell you that drinking coffee before bedtime isn’t the best to stimulate a good night rest, but I do hope that after reading this you think twice about lurking that shitty supermarket coffee before bedtime.
Thinking? Yes, thinking! During the day there is a lot on your mind. You are going from on activity to the other without giving your mind time the put everything in perspective. Most people literally are busy doing stuff until 11 p.m. Right before bed time. This means once they are finally in bed, their mind is still processing everything that has happened that day. There a few people that can just lay in bed and fall asleep in 1 min. Believe me your probably not one of them xD. That's because everyone is thinking to much.
The people who research sleep recommend doing something relaxing for half an hour before going to bed. For me this would be either reading a couple pages out of a book or playing some guitar, but you can choose whatever feels right to you. Once you do this relaxing activity, unconsciously your mind will put your daily thoughts in order. After that you can fall asleep and get that good night rest what your body has been craving for so long.
These were my 3 things you shouldn't do before going to bed! I think this a topic everyone is dealing with these days , so I thought it would be nice to write about it. I hope this was useful to you and that you get the good night rest you so truly deserve :).
I am curious to hear if you notice any results in your energy levels, mood, or any type of change in your daily routine after avoiding any of the 3 things mentioned above. If so, please comment in the section below what changed ^^.
I wish you all a great day and good luck with the remaining hours of work, school or whatever you're doing. Have a great weekend!
